700 Area High School Students To Converge At UTI This Friday

− Open House to Help Students Explore Technical Education Opportunities −

RANCHO CUCAMONGA, Calif. (January 9, 2008) – With only five months until graduation, area high school seniors are facing a major life decision – what next? College, a technical education or the working world?

Universal Technical Institute (UTI), a national leader in technical education training for students seeking careers as professional automotive, diesel, collision repair, motorcycle and marine technicians, will host an open house for 700 students from 22 Inland Empire high schools at its Rancho Cucamonga campus, located at 9494 Haven Avenue, on Friday, January 11, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Students participating in the school-sponsored field trip will travel from high schools, such as Whittier, Corona, Chatsworth and Pacific, to visit UTI’s campus and learn about automotive and other technical education opportunities. The event is geared to students who may be evaluating or interested in pursuing a technical career versus a four-year college education.

“Transitioning from high school is full of challenges, especially if students decide that a four-year university isn’t right for them,” said Michael Fontaine, UTI Rancho Cucamonga campus president. “Although the event will be fun, it is intended to highlight the diverse and rewarding careers available to professional automotive technicians. UTI’s track-record of placing graduates in lucrative jobs with opportunity for growth shows that our top priority is helping people find a career they are passionate about.”

According to Jeff Ellingsen, director of Assessment & Research at the Chaffey Joint High School District, “Approximately 41 percent of high school students in the District pursue a two or four-year college degree following graduation.”

Those attending the open house will have the opportunity to tour the facility, speak to staff and see the latest auto diagnostic equipment. “Grave Digger” creator and professional driver Dennis Anderson will be on site with the popular 10,000 pound monster truck. Other scheduled attractions include the Spark Plug Challenge, a contest rewarding the fastest spark plug changer; tire change challenge, as well as food and music.

There is no charge to attend the event and everyone is welcome, including individuals exploring career changes who may be well out of high school and monster truck enthusiasts.
